Five Stylish Sofas for 2018
There are a few rules we follow when choosing a sofa or settee. Aside from colour and practicality (should those with children go for machine washable covers?) one of the most important things to me is comfort. There is nothing better at the end of a busy day than relaxing on a comfortable sofa, legs up, book in hand, and feeling all my joints sink in to cosy cushions. By the same token, there are certain styles that I do not find comfortable at all, particularly leather chairs and sofas. Whether it’s fake or real, sit on them in shorts at your peril, who wants to stick to a chair or leave an outline of moisture where you once sat?!
There are some amazingly beautiful ranges on the market that suit all budgets. Here are five of my favourites for 2018.
New from designer Roger Lewis, The Pensford is a simple yet elegant piece that would be well suited to smaller rooms and apartment living. Its beautifully curved arms, soft back and single seat cushion make this compact piece perfect for any modern home. Despite its contemporary style, it’s a comfortable sofa that props you up perfectly!
Okay, so it’s not technically a sofa, but this Gillhov chair from Ikea is on-trend for 2018. With its palm leave print in an array of colours, its amazingly comfortable for its mid-range price. It looks cool in living rooms, bedrooms and conservatories, its firm back keeping you up straight while being comfortable at the same time. I love this chair and want one in every room! It comes in a range of colours but this one, multicolour, is my favourite.
New from B and B Italia, the Lutetia comes in a range of colours and materials – its base-frame in grey oak, brushed light oak, brushed black oak or smoked stained oak, while fabrics and stitching can be customised. The cushions distinguish the versions – the first has a classic look (with three for the seat and three for the back) and in the second version the seat has a single topstitched seat cushion with a series of free cushions that make the back comfortable.
John Lewis Cromwell Chesterfield Large 3 Seater Sofa
Who doesn’t love a Chesterfield sofa? This modern take on the classic sofa means that you don’t have to own a grand home for it to look good. With soft fabric and a fixed foam filling to provide you with a supportive sit, the Cromwell comes in a range of colours ensuring that it fits into any type of home.
Wallis 4 Seater Sofa
A new collaboration between furniture store Heal’s and acclaimed designer Russell Pinch, the Wallis sofa is a modern, elegant piece that I predict will remain a timeless addition to any home.
Handcrafted in Britain, the Wallis features a hardwood beech and birch frame with stained ash feet in a choice of natural, tinted walnut or black finish. Available as a three or four seater sofa, the Wallis can be skilfully upholstered in a variety of Heal’s or designer fabrics. I am loving this green soft velvet version.
