Why We Love Le Marche
Travel is in our blood, between us we have seen a huge amount of the world and like many people, we still need to see more! With this said, there is also no place like home. Italy’s Le Marche region is the perfect place to make a home, be it full time or as a vacation-let investment.
Nestled between Tuscany & Umbria to the left, and the Adriatic Sea to the right, Le Marche is a hidden jewel and a mostly undiscovered part of Italy. Popular with tourists from Germany and the Netherlands, the region rarely gets a mention in the UK, although there are a number of Brits living there.
The region is abundant with hilltop Medieval towns – walled cities that date back to before the Middle Ages, where houses are stacked behind each other between narrow cobbled walkways and offer amazing views, usually of lush green valleys dotted with farms and fields of sunflowers. These towns were built high up to offer protection from invading enemies and many of them are completely intact today. Walking through the cobbled streets and observing daily life struck a core with us, time had almost stood still.
Well, apart from the ATM’s, cars, post offices and vespa’s of course!
Cliff lined bays scatter the Adriatic coast with an abundance of white pebble and golden sandy beaches, while inland there are sloped hill towns and the high rise mountain ranges of Monti Sibillini, complete with numerous hiking trails and cycle routes, ski resorts, freshwater lakes and rivers and great local cuisine.
Did I mention that Le Marche also has some of the friendliest people you will ever meet?
Coastal towns like San Benedetto Del Tronto and Grottammare offer beachside living for all budgets, whether one bedroomed studios, large villas or chic penthouses overlooking the sea are within your budget. A large cycle path runs the length of the beach, linking towns all along the coast, where pedestrians and cyclists move freely on the street, each having plenty of room to walk or cycle (hello, England!)
There are hundreds of houses that need restoration work, and these can be picked up for a steal. Even if you have no experience in home restoration, owning one of these without breaking the bank is still achievable – that’s where we come in! Many people have bought homes such as these, and with a trusted team overseeing the restoration and renovation work your dream home can be created for a fraction of what it will cost elsewhere.
Restoring a house to use as a vacation home offers great potential – whether you want to rent it out or spend months at a time in it, the process of seeing a ruin transform into your own space is very exciting and rewarding.
Buying a Medieval hilltop town will allow you to experience authentic Italian life. But there are more options – a farmhouse surrounded by land, a villa with a pool, an apartment near the sea… the choices are endless.
A project such as this offers complete escapism, and who can knock that?!
